Frequently asked questions
Did Hims & Hers win or lose the GLP-1 compounding fight?
Both, in sequence. Hims built its weight-loss business on compounded semaglutide from $199/month in May 2024. After the FDA declared the shortage resolved in February 2025, Novo Nordisk terminated their partnership (June 2025), the FDA sent a warning letter (September 2025), HHS referred the company to the DOJ (February 2026), and Novo sued for patent infringement. On March 9, 2026 they settled: Hims sells branded Ozempic and Wegovy at Novo's self-pay prices ($349/month pen, $149-299 pill), stops advertising compounded GLP-1s, and keeps a narrow compounded lane for documented clinical need. The stock rose 40.8% that day.
Why did Hims & Hers margins fall so much in 2026?
Mix, not demand. Branded GLP-1s carry pharmacy economics instead of compounding economics, and international acquisitions added lower-margin revenue: gross margin fell from 74% in fiscal 2025 to 65% in Q1 2026 and 64% in Q2 2026, while restructuring, deal costs, and a $15M FTC accrual drove GAAP losses of $178M in H1 2026. Adjusted EBITDA guidance for fiscal 2026 is $275-325M on revenue of $3.1-3.3B, and management's 2030 targets ($6.5B revenue, $1.3B adjusted EBITDA) assume margin recovers from here.
What is the FTC lawsuit against Hims & Hers about?
Filed July 29, 2026, the FTC alleges Hims shared consumers' sensitive health information (medical conditions) with advertising platforms including Meta and Snap despite its privacy claims, and engaged in deceptive billing and cancellation practices, including charging for prescriptions almost immediately after intake. The stock fell 14.7% that day. Remedies are unquantified; a related securities class action has a lead-plaintiff deadline of November 2, 2026. The company booked a $15M accrual in Q1 2026 and disputes the allegations.
What did Hims & Hers buy with ZAVA and Eucalyptus?
A global platform. ZAVA (closed July 2025, price undisclosed) brought 1.3M active customers across the UK, Germany, France, and Ireland. Eucalyptus (closed June 2, 2026, up to $1.15B with roughly $225-240M paid upfront and the rest in deferred payments and earnouts through early 2029) brought 850,000+ customers, a revenue run rate above $450M, and brands across Australia, the UK, Germany, Canada, and Japan. Rest-of-world revenue reached $131.4M in Q2 2026, about 17% of the total.
How does the business actually make money?
Marketing (trending down from ~52% to ~39% of revenue) buys customers for stigmatized or inconvenient conditions; an asynchronous consult converts them to cash-pay subscriptions; fulfillment runs increasingly through owned infrastructure (503A pharmacies, the MedisourceRx 503B facility, a peptide plant, Trybe Labs diagnostics, over 1M square feet). Subscribers grew from ~290K at end-2020 to 2.89M in Q2 2026, and monthly revenue per subscriber rose from $64 (2024) to $92, with about 65% of subscribers on personalized treatments. The undisclosed numbers are churn, retention, and CAC: a black-box retention claim under $3B of revenue, treated in the report as a permanent evidence gap priced into the scenarios.
What does the category map look like?
Five US specialties at or near $100M run rates (hair, sexual health, dermatology, mental health, weight loss), testosterone approaching $100M as the sixth, women's health inside Hers, Labs launched in 2025, and peptides queued: sermorelin, glutathione, and NAD+ targeted by end-2026, six more compounds pending FDA Category 1 listing after the July 2026 advisory committee voted to recommend six of seven reviewed peptides. Leerink sizes the telehealth peptide market near $2.2B. Breadth is the moat's engine: every category amortizes the same brand, provider network, and pharmacy footprint.
What do the financials show?
Revenue: $527M (2022), $872M (2023), $1,476M (2024), $2,348M (2025), with Q2 2026 at $753M (+38%) after a soft Q1 (+4%) caused by a shipping-cadence change. Adjusted EBITDA reached $318M in fiscal 2025 but converted to only $57M of free cash flow after $135M of stock compensation, and H1 2026 ran GAAP losses of $178M on deal, restructuring, and legal items. The balance sheet holds over $840M of cash and short-term investments against two zero-coupon converts ($1.0B due 2030 at a ~$70.67 conversion price; $350M due 2032 at ~$29.53), a $400M receivables facility, and $225M of buyback remaining. Dilution (share count up to 231.7M, SBC near 6% of revenue, up to ~$900M of Eucalyptus consideration stock-settleable) is carried explicitly in the scenario share counts.
Who are the competitors and what does the moat rest on?
Ro (private, last priced at a $5B valuation in 2021) took the opposite regulatory path and aligned with Novo early. LifeMD ($194M of fiscal 2025 telehealth revenue, ~$123M market cap) shows the model priced without the brand: Hims trades near 2.5x trailing sales against LifeMD at 0.6-0.9x and Teladoc ($2.53B of revenue) at ~0.4x. The structural cap on every intermediary is manufacturer disintermediation: LillyDirect sells Zepbound at $299-449 with 45% of scripts already self-pay, NovoCare and TrumpRx mirror the $349 Wegovy price, Lilly refuses to partner with Hims at all, and Amazon's pharmacy funnel stands behind all of it. The moat is owned in the long tail of categories and rented at the head, which is why the pillar grade is PARTIAL.
What are the key risks and dates?
The FTC suit (data sharing and billing; remedies unquantified) and the unresolved February 2026 DOJ referral; Novo dependence (the settlement preserves Novo's right to refile the patent suit, and branded economics sit at Novo's prices); gross margin pinned in the low-to-mid 60s by branded and international mix; Eucalyptus obligations through early 2029; peptide rulemaking pending; and insider selling (secondary tallies of roughly 7.5M shares and $191M sold by the CEO since 2021, with a fresh 10b5-1 plan covering 2.4M shares). Dated checkpoints: November 2, 2026 (class-action lead plaintiff), November 9, 2026 (Q3 earnings against the $880-900M revenue guide), and quarterly gross margin as the base case's single validation number.
